Neptune: Hey (: My name is Neptune, i’m 14 and I’m a drag queen from Scotland.
Question #1: How were you first introduced to doing drag?
Neptune: I first came across drag when I was little, I always knew I wanted to be a drag queen. I started watching RuPaul’s Drag Race and very quickly fell in love with the art form, however, I thought it was only something that males could do. Within a couple of years I started to become friendly with some local queens that lived nearby, not all of them were male and I very quickly started to recreate their looks, I then started buying wigs etc
Question #2: How long would you say you have been doing drag?
Neptune: I did my first drag look in December 2016, though it wasn’t until September of last year that I started going out as Neptune and performing.
Question #3: What motivates you to continue being a drag artist?
Neptune: Drag is one of the only things I’m really passionate about, there’s still so much for me to learn and I wanna continue improving myself as an artist.
Anna: Drag seems to be very important to you, is it like a getaway for you when you have hard times?
Neptune: It is very important to me, I always feel so much more confident in drag and it’s helped me through a lot (:
Question #4: Do you have any other drag artist that inspire you?
Neptune: Of course, I’m constantly inspired by everyone in the Scottish scene, everyone’s drag is different, and it inspires me to try out new looks every now and then.
Question #5: How long does it typically take for you to create one of your looks?
Neptune: It really depends haha, I like to take my time with my looks (when I can) and they can take up to 4 hours sometimes. However, if I’m performing and I’m in a rush to leave the house I can get ready in an hour and a half (:
Anna: Wow!
Question #6: Can you explain to me one of your favorite looks?
Neptune: My Aladdin Sane look is probably one of my favourites (: I love David Bowie and Aladdin Sane is such a great album, it was so fun to create a look inspired by it.
Anna: That’s super cool.
Question #7: What is the best advice you’ve received regarding drag?
Neptune: Honestly, to shave my eyebrows off. Best thing I’ve done for myself to be honest, it means I can get ready super quick and it takes away the stress of having to glue them down.
Question #8: What would you say the hardest thing about being a drag artist is?
Neptune: Having to explain it to people, a lot of people still believe that it’s something only males can do and when explaining it to someone who isn’t so understanding it can be very difficult
Question #9: How do you feel about people saying females can’t do drag? How do you deal with it?
Neptune: I usually try to just block it out.
Question #10: What’s the best advice you would give to a teen trying to do drag?
Neptune: Don’t put lots of money into it at first, I see so many new queens pay hundreds for top quality wigs and makeup, but it’s really not necessary.
Question #11: How do you make sure you spend money wisely?
Neptune: I normally buy wigs and costumes from amazon, I don’t have loads of money to spend on drag anyway but its always good to find cheap alternatives to things like expensive eyeshadows, good wigs etc
Question #12: What’s the best advice you can give to teens about life?
Neptune: Don’t always try to fit into society’s standards, it’s so damaging and never worth it. Just do what makes you happy.
Anna: That’s great advice! Thank you for doing this interview! Is there anything you would like to add?
Neptune: Thank you for interviewing me (:
Anna: No, thank you!
