An Interview with Georgia Brown
We recently interviewed 14 year old graphic artist, Georgia Brown.
Below is an interview between Kaitlyn C. and Georgia Brown.
Kaitlyn: Can you introduce yourself please?
Georgia: Yeah! Hi, I’m Georgia
Kaitlyn: Hi Georgia! Can you tell us a little bit about you?
Georgia: I’m 14, I’m in 9th grade, and I’m a digital artist
Question #1: When and how were you first introduced to art?
Georgia: I was in 4th grade when I found a book on how to draw manga. I then discovered how much I liked drawing and deciding to keep going!
Question #2: What motivates you to continue drawing?
Georgia: It makes me happy and I like to see my improvement and style change over the years!
Question #3: Do you have any one artist that you look up to or that keeps you motivated?
Georgia: Probably Miriam Bonastre. She’s the author and artist of the Webtoon, Hooky, and I just adore her art! It’s almost like if you were to mix western cartoon with anime.
Question #4: What is the inspiration behind your art?
Georgia: I would say anime, video games, other artists, and my artist friends!
Question #5: Can you explain the process that goes into one drawing? For example; how long does one piece take? Is there a specific type of music you like to listen to while you draw? Is there a certain place you draw? Etc.
Georgia: When I start a drawing, I usually do the sketch traditionally and do the line-art and color on digital. It probably takes me about 1-2 hours, but that’s because I have a habit of rushing a bit to get to the final product. I’ve been getting better at slowing down though! I basically live off of music and when I draw I’ll listen to lofi music so it’s really chill. I usually draw at my desk since that’s where I have enough space for my computer and tablet.
Question #6: Who is your biggest supporter as an artist?
Georgia: My friends are super supportive and it’s really fun to draw with together, give critique, and encourage one another!
Question #7: What is the best advice you were given relating to being an artist that people following in your footsteps should hear?
Georgia: Take breaks when you need to! Not taking a break when you need to can lead to art block and it’s not fun having art block. So remember to take breaks!!!
Question #8: What is the best advice you can give that teens should hear? (Not pertaining to art.)
Georgia: Cut out any toxic friends or people in your life. It’s hard at first, but your self-esteem will skyrocket!
Last Question: That is very good advice, thank you! Is there anything else you would like to add before we conclude the interview?
Georgia: Never give up! It sounds really cheesy, but it’s true!
Kaitlyn This concludes our interview. Thank you very much Georgia! Have a great day!
Georgia: Thank you! You too!
