Annalee: My name is Annalee Catherine, I'm 15 years old from Florida, I'm an aspiring photographer. I just started last September. I'm hoping to get into an online photography school in a few years;)
Ella: Your work is amazing for just having started in September!
Annalee: Thank you!
Question 1: Of course! Do you have any other passions besides photography?
Annalee: Not really, I've been interested in taking pictures my whole life but just recently decided I was actually going to pursue it. I used to be a jewelry maker, but I moved on to photography;) I was actually in the newspaper of the farmers market in Canon City Colorado.
Ella: That’s very cool!
Question 2: How did you get introduced to photography?
Annalee: I started on my phone when I got it around my birthday in September. I just started on a real camera about 4 or 5 months back. I was basically goofing off on my phone and realized it was fun ahaha.
Ella: What type of camera do you have?
Annalee: I have a Canon 50D. Well, it's my mom’s camera, I don’t have my own yet. I’m slowly saving up for it.
Ella: Well that’s still great! I’m sure you’ll get it in no time
Question 3: what is your favorite type of photography and why?
Annalee: I really enjoy macro photography because it gives a unique perspective on something that may be boring to plain sight.
Ella: That sounds like a lot of fun to be able to give your own perspective on life and make it unique!
Annalee: And it's nice because you don't need a super fancy location either, most of my photos are taken in my yard. Except for the parrot ones of course.
Ella: Yes, I noticed you do a lot of bird pictures, are birds your favourite animals?
Annalee: Oh no birds aren’t my favorite, that's just the latest photoshoot I did ;)
Ella: Oh, I see.
Question 4: Who is your biggest inspiration as a photographer?
Annalee: I know this sounds insane but I don't actually follow many professional photographers. I kind of go my own way and just take pictures of what I think would look good. I do like Ansel Adams, but he’s not really my inspiration.
Question 5: Oh okay, so would you say you’re kind of your own inspiration?
Annalee: I guess so!
Question 6: Are there any career goals that photography has opened up?
Annalee: I really want to do wedding photography. (of course, way in the future when I have experience) I am getting a few local jobs from friends and family, and I currently am in the process of planning 3. I also love travel photography. One of my dreams is to travel the world and make a photo-book out of all my photos!
Question 7: I love traveling! Where would you most like to travel to do photography? And what types of weddings would you most enjoy to shoot?
Annalee: I really want to go to New Zealand or Finland! I recently got Pen Pals from there to find out more about the areas. I'd love to do outdoor weddings, like in a big field of flowers
Ella: I have been to New Zealand! I think you would love it! It is gorgeous and has many great places to take gorgeous photos!
Annalee: I definitely think I'd love it ;)
Question 8: For sure! Has it been difficult for you to juggle school and photography? Do you find yourself prioritizing photography sometimes? What’s your game plan for that kind of stuff?
Annalee: So, I'm actually homeschooled, so it's very easy to do both. I do feel like I prioritize photography because I'm a lot more interested in it than math or history. I'm planning on graduating high school then moving onto photography school and getting my certification
Ella: Oh, that’s easy to be homeschooled then. That would be nice and I’m sure it gives you plenty of time to do shoots. Were you always homeschooled or was that just something that you decided to do this year?
Annalee: I've been homeschooled my whole life. So has my 3 siblings! (2 already graduated) my parents just thought I'd be better for us to do what we love to do and not have to just follow along with everyone else.
Question 9: Who has been your biggest supporter?
Annalee: Definitely my parents. They are supportive of everything I want to do. and I'm very thankful for that.
Question 10: What is the best advice you can give to teens following in your footsteps?
Annalee: Don't be afraid to do what you love because someone says you can’t. go for it! And even if you fail at least you had the guts to try in the first place.
Ella: That is some really good advice!
Question 11L What is the best advice you can give to teens in general because as we all know being a teenager is hard stuff.
Annalee: People sometimes underestimate teenagers because they don't have as much experience as adults. But everyone starts somewhere so don't let that push you down.
Ella: I totally agree! That is awesome advice!
Annalee: And it’s hard for teenagers to get photography gigs too! Because they want to pay you less because you are younger.
Ella: Agreed! Well, that wraps up the interview but before I go, is there anything you would like to add?
Annalee: Hmmm I don't think so
Ella: Thank you for doing the interview!
Annalee: Np! My pleasure
