Interview with Lauren Spencer-Smith
We recently did an interview with singer, Lauren Spencer-Smith.
Below is the conversation between Daania and Lauren.
Daania: Please start off by introducing yourself, (name, age, passions)
Lauren: My name is Lauren Spencer-Smith I am 15 years old and my passion is singing
Question 1: How did you first get introduced to singing and how?
Lauren: I’ve always been very outgoing and loved to sing from a very young age. I was always singing in the car and whenever I could. One of my biggest inspirations is Adele and from listening to her albums and music I was inspired to do what she does as well. When I was about 6, I first sang in front of my school in the talent show and from then it just grew bigger from that point.
Question 2: Did you ever have a fall back time where you lost motivation in singing?
Lauren: No, I’ve never felt a moment where I lost touch with it, I’ve always loved to do it and it’s always been my passion
Daania: That’s great!
Question 3: What musicians and singers inspire you? What do you like most about their music/singing/personality?
Lauren: My biggest inspiration would be Adele, I love the way she performs and expresses herself and isn’t anyone she doesn’t choose to be. Her songs are from the heart and her voice is phenomenal, another inspiration of mine who may not be a musician or singer would be Ellen. One of my goals is to be successful enough to be able to help people and make a difference the way that she does in many people’s lives.
Question 4: You’ve sang covers and recently came out with an original. Do you prefer singing covers or your originals and why?
Lauren: I love to sing covers but I definitely would prefer to sing originals to be able to share my point of view and my own lyrics is how I want to inspire other people through my own songs, It would also be really exciting to have other singers to want to cover my songs
Question 5: Speaking of your fans, you’ve got quite a lot that are always there to support you. How do they make you feel?
Lauren: I’m very appreciative of everyone supporting me throughout my journey they make me feel very loved, and important and to know that even a few people look up to me as an artist and person is very incredible. They have a very big impact and I thank all of them very much
Question 6: Besides your fans, who has been your biggest supporter throughout your musical journey?
Lauren: My parents and grandparents are for sure my biggest supporters, they have all wanted me to be happy and Pursue my dreams. They have wanted me to succeed from day 1 and have always wanted me to do what I love.
Question 7: Many singers struggle with balancing school and music, has this ever happened to you and how did you overcome it?
Lauren: Balancing school, music and my job 4 days a week has definitely been very stressful and busy, I feel I overcome all of it by looking at the bigger picture and reminding myself that In the end all of the hard work will pay off and that in order to succeed in life you need to work for it.
Question 8: What’s your ultimate dream career? Do you hope to dive into it or go to a university, etc?
Lauren: My ultimate dream career would be to perform, tour, write music and to be able to share it with the world. I don’t plan to go to university, but I do plan to continue to practice and have a vocal coach and further my learning in all areas of music and my career.
Question 9: How have you worked for your dream? What things have you done to work toward achieving your dream?
Lauren: Consistent practice and uploading videos to social media trying to get myself out there more and entering competitions. I have a lot harder work and time to go before I can officially have this as a career but I’m willing to put in the effort to achieve it.
Question 10: You’ve recently had the pleasure of performing on the Steve Harvey show, how did that experience make you feel? What have you learned from it?
Lauren: Being on the Steve show was very surreal but amazing experience, I’m very grateful for that opportunity it was incredible, I learned that there are many people behind the scenes it takes to put on a huge production like that.

Question 11: What’s the best advice you can give to teens who want to follow your footsteps?
Lauren: Always be yourself and don’t let what people say get to you. Many people will try and bring you down and break your confidence, but you have to learn to love yourself and understand yourself worth to push past the hate and only focus on the positive.
