We recently interviewed teen photographer/videographer, Aedan Kelly Loughran
Read the interview below!
Kelly: I am Aedan Loughran and go by Kelly on Instagram (that's my middle name). I am 15 years old and enjoy photography and videography. I hope to one day be traveling the world with a camera to take amazing shots of the beautiful earth we live in!
Question 1: When did you first get introduced to photography and how?
Kelly: I started watching YouTube videos of Peter McKinnon and Casey Neistat about two years ago and was hooked with filmmaking and photography right away. About a year ago I was still really into them and I had discovered Dan Mace who I loved for his amazing creativity and that's when I decided to make my first YouTube video. Since then I have been working hard to get better and create more amazing work.
Question 2: What is your favorite part of photography? What types of photos are your favorite to take?
Kelly: My favorite part of photography has to be the feeling you get when you know you got a 'banger'. Its like an adrenaline rush, but simply from getting a good photo. Another thing I love about it is the positive vibes you give other people when sharing your work and also the community of other photographers just like me. My favorite form of photography at the moment has to be street photography. I love to try out new things and street photography is a great way to do that!
Question 3: Are there any photographers/filmmakers that inspire you and what is it about them that inspires you?
Kelly: Dan Mace is probably my favorite filmmaker because of his personality and amazing creativity. His constant work ethic and creative ideas inspire me to create different content that I find enjoyable. I also try to have a great personality because my Bru Dan Mace has an amazing talent and great personality.
Question 4: If you could ask him one question what would you ask and why?
Kelly: What inspired you to start a YouTube channel and what advice do you give young filmmakers to do to start getting their work recognized? I would ask him this question so I could take what he said and take action
Question 5: As a photographer, what qualities do you think a good photographer should possess?
Kelly: ________
Question 6: Has photography opened any career goals? Do you hope to go to college, and if you do, do you hope to study photography?
Kelly: I would love to go to film school and I am soon going to start shooting weddings! I hope to one day be filming movies or do freelance and be a YouTuber. I know it's cliche to want to be a YouTuber, but since I'm still you I can give it a shot. It's all about the little steps I am going to take to get to where I want to be. For now I am creating the best content I can with what I have.
Question 7: What steps are you taking right now to achieve your dreams? You have created a youtube channel and a photography account, do you have goals for both of those?
Kelly: I am still formulating a style on my YouTube and Instagram right now. My goal right now is simply to continue making as much content as possible. I started a weekly YouTube series called Offbeat and I have been hard at work creating a new video every week. My goals are just to show my work to as many amazing people as possible. I want to interact with my followers and make new friends along the way. Of course, I want to show my work to as many people as possible and I am growing at a steady pace and I believe when you work hard enough your work will eventually be seen by a larger audience.
Question 8: Your editing style has changed overtime on your Instagram, what helped you decide you wanted to change it?
Kelly: On my recent travels to Japan I took a lot of photos! When I got home I realized that all the photos I got on the island Zamami looked amazing together so I started to post them and tried to make my grid look nice. Eventually my editing style changed and I tried making my photos more moody, especially the ones from Tokyo. This is the style grid I am at right now and I think it looks very good together. I have a nice moody vibe with a punch of orange. Honestly whenever I change my grid up it's just because of how I feel and how the editing is going.
Question 9: What’s the best advice you have ever gotten about photography?
Kelly: Not to worry about numbers. I get caught up in it sometimes but it's really about the process and not the numbers. If you worry on the numbers then you aren't worrying about your craft. It you create quality content people will find you!
Question 10: What’s the best advice you can give to teens (not relating to photography?
Kelly: Just enjoy your life before it gets stressful. Be thankful for the little things and appreciate the earth you got given, don't destroy it. When possible try new things and experience different cultures to broaden your worldview.
Last question: That concludes the interview. Any last things you’d like to add?
Kelly: Not at all! We covered everything thank you!
