Interview with Cooper Geere!
We recently interviewed teen photographer, Cooper Geere!
Below is a conversation between Kaitlyn C. and Cooper Geere.
Kaitlyn: Hello! How are you today?
Cooper: hello i’m good thankyou how are you?
Kaitlyn: I’m doing well, thank you! Are you ready to begin the interview?
Cooper: yes i am :))
Kaitlyn: Awesome. Could you please introduce yourself and explain your hobby?
Cooper: my name is cooper geere, i’m fourteen years old and i’m a photographer, i live in the united kingdom and i love photographing things especially the nature and beautiful countryside i live in. i’ve been doing photography for less than a year (about 10 months or so) and i’ve loved every moment of it haha.
Question 1: When were you first introduced to photography and how?
Cooper: i was introduced to photography when i was in year 7 so maybe 2 years ago. one of my good friends was doing it and she used to take pictures of leaves and things from different angles which i found really cool but i didn’t make much of it. then more of my friends started doing it but none of them took it very seriously so i decided to try it out myself and i just loved it instantly. it just puts a smile on my face.
Question 2: What type of photography do you like to do? Does your Instagram page reflect that type of photography?
Cooper: i like to do nature and landscape the best. my page definitely reflects that but i like to spice it up a bit with some street photography and portraits from time to time if you get what i mean. i really just like the beauty of nature and photographing it is always a challenge but one i’m always up to.
Question 3: What is the definition of a “good” photo to you?
Cooper: i feel like defining a good photo is really hard because every photo is unique and interesting in its own way. no photo is the same as any other and it’s hard to judge when there are so many styles, i would say if you look at a photo and then you take a minute to look again because there’s something in that photo that’s captured your interest or imagination then it’s definitely a good photo.
Question 4: Who are your biggest inspirations to your photography?
Cooper: my idol is giulia gartner. her photos are so idyllic and breathtaking without looking too edited. she’s so talented and she’s only 20 years old. i aspire to be like her because she travels all around the world and makes every place look amazing.
Question 5: What qualities do you believe a photographer needs in order to be successful?
Cooper: originality. originality is key because in photography there are trends which lots of people take photos of and they look good but can never properly wow you, if you add your own twist to your photos, have a new editing style or use different perspectives you will get a lot further, none of the best photographers’ photos look remotely similar to each other. because of this i try to make my photos as unique as possible.
Question 6: Has photography opened any career goals or job opportunities? (Do you have any career goals in the field of photography? If so, what are they?)
Cooper: i would love to be a professional photographer and i’ve been offered jobs to do with photography for entrepreneurs in the future so it’s all out there, there’s a whole world of photography that i haven’t started to explore yet as i’ve not been doing it for long but i’ve seen people make lots of money from it and its my passion so why can’t i? haha
Question 7: Who has been your biggest supporter in your photography?
Cooper: my biggest supporter has had to be either my friend louis or my friend izzy, they both are so supportive and always choose my photos when i ask them to, if i feel like im not good enough then they always encourage me and without them i wouldn’t have improved as much as i have.
Question 8: What is the best advice you were ever given about photography that beginner photographers should hear?
Cooper: someone said to me to make the absolute most of every photo you take and not to do it for the followers or for the gratitude you get from it but to do it because you love it and when you do that you will find out who you are as a photographer, of course i took the advice and i’m so much happier for it and i’m proud of ever photograph i take
Question 9: What is the best advice you can give to teens not relating to photography?
Cooper: the best advice i can give is to do what you want to do, to not feel pressured by anyone else and to be who you are because popularity and being ‘cool’ is completely irrelevant in later life and what we establish now as our generation will shape the future. we need to what we can to make the world a better place and being who you are is key because as soon as one person sees you standing out they will stand out too and everyone will become accepting of everyone else
Last question: Is there anything you’d like to add before we conclude this interview?
Cooper: i just want to say it’s been a pleasure being interviewed and i really like what you’re doing it’s a great idea.
Kaitlyn: Thank you so much! I love the idea of this magazine too! Have a wonderful rest of your day Cooper!
Cooper: no problem!!! thankyou for choosing to interview me i’m really flattered.
