*A conversation between Daania S. and Audrey Mika Armacost a 18 year old singer/dancer.*
Daania- Hi Aubrey, how are you doing? Could you start off by introducing yourself?
Audrey- Hi! My name is Audrey Mika Armacost. I am 18 and I’m from San Francisco!
First question: When did you start singing/acting/dancing, and how did you get into it?
Audrey- I started singing and dancing when I was around four years old. I had always been surrounded by music because my dad is a jazz player and he would always be playing his trumpet. My first passion was dancing and I continued to do that up until 2018, but then it soon became to stressful and i quit in january. I had already been uploading my music to SoundCloud but after I quit dancing I decided I was going to pursue music as my career and I couldn’t be more happy!
Question 2: What drew you closer to music after you decided dance wasn’t working well for you? What was the deciding factor that helped you decide music as your career choice?
Audrey- I had always been writing music and had always been surrounded by music and quitting dance was just a sign for me that it was time to move on and start a new chapter.
also, it was a sign that people were responding very positively towards my music I was putting out. so that just encouraged me to make even more music and make me love what I do even more
Question 3: You just started putting music out almost a year ago, and you have a fanbase that keeps growing. How does that make you feel? There are various fan pages and comments to prove that you have a lot of supporters.
Audrey- It makes me feel so grateful and I never thought that I would have such amazing supporters as I do now. it is kind of strange to think that there are multiple people that take time out of their day just to post about you and show how much they love and support you. and I love talking to them in the DMs too they’re really cool
Question 4: Talking about your fans, a lot of them wear the iconic “paperclip earring” mostly inspired by you. How did the whole “paperclip” idea start? Did you just decide one day to put a paperclip through your ear?
Audrey- that is literally what happened. One day I was like I am bored of regular earrings how about putting a paperclip in my ear. Then I found out that there are colored paperclips and that just made it even more fun. I was actually really surprised at how well it caught on I thought that people would just think it’s weird but people are actually trying to put paper clips in their ears which I think is really really awesome and now they look cool!
Question 5: Your album “Level Up” just came out. It features many of your new songs such as: Pure, Blueberry Skies, Distracted, and many more. Which of these songs was the hardest to write, which was the easiest, which was the most fun one to make, and which do you love the most/are you most proud of?
Audrey- honestly, I love absolutely every single song on the album. blueberry skies was definitely one of my favorites to make because everything flowed really nicely. One of the hardest songs was deserve
and top layer they just took a little bit longer to write and it was harder to find good instruments that sounded clean with the track.
Question 6: What singers/artists inspire you and your music the most?
Audrey- definitely Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Daniel Caesar, and a little bit of Audrey Mika haha
Question 7: Please explain the process of creating your songs.
Audrey- when I am in the zone I can get inspired by almost anything. but usually it starts with inspiration for the meaning of the song or I hear chords for guitar or piano. and then I usually like to figure out my verse my bridge and my chorus either on guitar or piano. and then I add melody and lyrics! But sometimes it can take up to five days to write one song. And if that happens that means I’m forcing it. I think it’s really important that you shouldn’t have to force songwriting and it should all just flow naturally.
Question 8: Have you ever performed any songs from your albums in front of an audience? If not, would you want to?
Audrey- yes I have performed some of my songs in front of audiences but I would love to do more performing. Also my lifelong dream is to go on a world tour can’t wait for that day
Question 9: Speaking of the future, what are your musical career goals?
Audrey- definitely going on the world tour, making a professional studio album, getting to make music with some of my favorite artists and being in Time Square!
Question 10: What actions are you hoping to take to achieve those goals? Right now I believe you are currently sort of DIY-ing it. What steps are you going to take? Are you going to College, diving right into it, get an agent, etc?
Audrey- playing shows, putting out as much quality music i can, and there have been people reaching out to manage me. but i have a current manager and we are planning to move to LA!
Daania- That’s great news!
Audrey- yes it really is!
Question 11: How would you describe your musical sound? How does singing make you feel?
Audrey- i cannot even describe how it feels. i’ve developed this crazy crazy love for performing because it just feels so so good. i can’t explain. it’s just hard to do shows because at the same time I am trying to finish high school.
Question 12: Was it/is it hard to juggle singing and school at the same time? Is that something that contributed to dancing to not working well for you?
Audrey- actually for dance I would be dancing from 9 to 5, 6 days a week so I had to be homeschooled. so it never got in the way I just had long days. but for music I am just so inspired all the time and all I ever want to do is sing so sometimes I forget school comes first. It’s bad because i get distracted very easily which is also not very good
Question 13: Does your friends and family support your decision in moving to LA?
Audrey- 100% They are proud that I am following my dreams
Question 14: What was the best advice you were ever given about music? What advice would you give to teens who want to follow your footsteps?
Audrey- no one has really given advice to me haha. i kinda give advice to myself and I just tell myself you cannot let fear stand in your way because life is too short so you just have to go for it sometimes you know? When anyone asks me how I have confidence and they are like I need advice on how to do what you were doing and I literally every single time I tell them go for it. My two models in life are you never know when tha when anyone asks me how I have confidence and they are like I need advice on how to do what you were doing and I literally every single time I tell them go for it. My motto in life “you never know unless you try” i just meant my motto in like is you never know until u try
Last question: Any last remarks or statements you want to say?
