Interview with Caroline Dare!
Read the interview between Kaitlyn C. and Caroline Dare!
Caroline: Hi! I’m Caroline Dare. I’m eighteen years old & originally from North Carolina, but I just moved to Nashville about 2 months ago! I am a singer/songwriter, and I moved to Nashville to pursue my passion. I’ve been songwriting and playing guitar since I was 11 years old. It is something i love to do & have so much fun with!
Kaitlyn: When did you start singing, and how did you get into it (how did you get introduced to it)?
Caroline: I always loved music growing up! I would always listen to albums in the car on my way to soccer practice, and it has always been a huge part of my life growing up. I always enjoyed singing to myself when I was little, but I was too shy to sing in front of everyone at the time. Ed Sheeran inspired me to start playing guitar and I later overcame my fear of singing in public right after I wrote my first song when I was 11.
Kaitlyn: What is your preference when singing, covers or originals?
Caroline: I love singing original songs. I feel that i can inspire other people through the messages and lessons i share through my songs. I really value the connection i have between my music and the people who listen to it! Singing my original songs gives me the opportunity to help someone while doing something I love!
Kaitlyn: Speaking of writing your own songs, what’s your songwriting process like? (How long does one song usually take to create, etc.)
Caroline: I love songwriting because each session is different, and the creative process can end up changing! I am a very melodic writer, so melodies tend to come very easily to me. I like to get a chord progression down first so i can come up with a melody. Lyrics are created once i have that down - i like to think of it as filling the blank. That’s what my process is typically like, but it changes a lot! Usually a song will take me a few hours to write.
Kaitlyn: You’ve just released a new single called “Dive”, can you talk a bit about that?
Caroline: “Dive” is an upbeat, anthemic song about the anticipation of a potential relationship that’s about to begin. I love it because the energy is really high, and it’s a good one to dance to! I started writing the song by myself, but later finished it at my producer’s house a few months later. My producer, Nick Wheeler, did an amazing job working with me on it!
Kaitlyn: Who is your biggest inspiration as a singer/songwriter?
Caroline: I listen to a bunch of different artists, but I think the person who has inspired me the most is Ed Sheeran. He was the one who really motivated me into getting a guitar of my own. I saw him perform live and was fascinated with his loop pedal and guitar skill! I also admire his songwriting & his story. He is so unique and I really respect that.
Kaitlyn: What type of singing/songwriting career goals has this opened up for you?
Caroline: I am so grateful to be able to be doing what I love as a career. With the love and support from my team, I am often encouraged to dream big and take action towards achieving them. I would love to tour, especially since I have followers from all over the world! I never want to stop improving and growing. I want to be a good role model for those who need guidance!
Kaitlyn: Who has been your biggest supporter throughout your career?
Caroline: My family has always been my strongest support system. My parents and my brother have believed in me since i first started out. My dad would encourage me to never give up, even if i got made fun of by others or received hate comments online. My family is so strong, and i am immensely thankful for that!
Kaitlyn: What advice would you give teens who are following in your footsteps?
Caroline: Be yourself & stay genuine! Don’t get caught up in trends or try to be something you’re not. Your uniqueness is what sets you apart. Embrace your differences and stay true to yourself and what you believe in! Stay hopeful!!
Kaitlyn: Is there anything else you would like to add before we conclude the interview?
Caroline: Not in specific! I really appreciate you guys reaching out and thinking of me for this interview!!! It means so much to me!
Kaitlyn: Of course! Thank you for the interview! Have a wonderful day!
Caroline: Thanks so much! You too!!
