Moritz: I am Moritz Heck 16 years old, live with my parents and my sister in Germany, near Cologne and my passion is photography. Also, I do sports climbing since six years and love cycling (Mtb and road).
Ella: Question 1, when and how did you get introduced to photography?
Moritz: My grandfather repaired the old Canon of my dad about 11 years ago, which he gave me to play with. Since then I almost shot everything I saw, and my photography developed.
Ella: Question 2, it seems like you travel a lot so, where has been your favorite place to travel?
Moritz: Hard to decide, one year ago I had my first trip alone, an exchange to Argentina, where I was really able to experience the daily life for 8 weeks. But I also have been to Indonesia with my family, which were my first trekking holidays. And right now, I am in Georgia.
Ella: I lived in Singapore for 3 years, so I was able to travel a lot, so I definitely know what you mean, traveling is the best!
Moritz: Yeah, visited Singapore for some days too!
Ella: Question 3, what is your favorite type of photography?
Moritz: I can't name one, they are all so different and through that they also grant the variety of my photography and its styles. At the moment I am really concentrating on wildlife, although it isn't that easy to shoot birds with 55-250mm lens, but I already achieved some. But at all I think portrait photography is the master class, because it is so hard to reflect someone's character and emotion on one photo! But in general my page is as mixed as a bag of jelly beans. I upload everything I like.
Ella: Question 4, who/what is your biggest photography inspiration?
Moritz: In general, I haven't one account getting inspired of but I really enjoy pages like @roam.
Ella: Question 5, has there been any career goals that have opened up for you?
Moritz: Not exactly, but since one year I do photography as a mini job. I photograph at events. But mainly my photography is just a hobby and my career goals are in different fields.
Ella: Question 6, has it been hard to juggle school and photography at the same time?
Moritz: The photography isn't hard at all, though I have got many hobbies, this is my main one. But I see no duty to upload every day or something, tried that for one year. And experienced it's not only about achieving goals, but more about having fun. School hasn't stressful the last years, but After those holidays I have to spend some more time to get my perfect a-level.
Ella: Question 7, who has been your biggest supporter?
Moritz: Probably my dad, who lends me his camera for three years and is only able to use it 2% of the time. But also the great community on Instagram. There are many creatives on here and it's really interesting exchanging experience and tips in group chats.
Ella: That’s great! Question 8, what is the biggest advice you can give to teens following in your footsteps?
Moritz: Following anybody isn't the way to start, you have to go out there yourself and just experience and having fun. There will be a lot of people giving advices. But photography is an art you can create doesn't matter which rules to brake or follow.
Ella: Question 9, what advice would you like to give to teens in general?
Moritz: Enjoy your life. Find your passion and friends to share it with. But also not searching for anything, more appreciate the things you have.
Ella: Thank you! So that wraps up the interview, before I go, is there anything else you would like to add?
Moritz: Use all the time you have by going outside and doing something, rather than watching people doing something. Maybe that photography has taught me to look at the details and recognize their beauty.
Ella: Thank you for your time!
Moritz: Thank you very much too.
